Fulfilling that vision, Smith began his career in 1985 as an entry-level sales manager at Procter & Gamble (P&G). Over the next two decades, he worked on multiple billion-dollar brands and partnered with top U.S. retailers and wholesalers. In 2005, P&G tapped him to lead the development of a “Best in Class” Brand Protection program across the Americas and Asia Pacific. The scope of this work was vast, and fittingly, his business card read “Senior Brand Protection Manager, Western Hemisphere.”

Upon retiring from P&G in 2018, Smith launched a consulting firm called e-Light, dedicated to illuminating the “Shadow Supply Chain.” Within months, Johnson & Johnson’s divestiture of LifeScan led to an invitation for Smith to head its Global Brand Protection operations.
